Independent care guide

Replace, wash, or keep: identify the filter role before ordering

A filter light does not mean every layer goes in the trash. This guide normalizes the official care instructions for the two models currently verified in Purifier Part Check.

Reviewed Sep 2, 2026 · Manufacturer sources are linked in the comparison and finder.

Start with the model label, not the product nickname

A missing suffix can change the answer. “Core 300” is not a safe substitute for Core 300-P, and Winix 5500 is not the same lookup key as 5500-2. Read the model label on the purifier body or its manual before choosing a replacement.

Stop if the label and the listing do not match exactly.

Purifier Part Check returns unsupported rather than converting a near-match into a shopping result.

Two verified models, three different care actions

Exact purifierPart or layerCare actionVerified replacement key
Levoit Core 300-POriginal 3-stage packaged filterReplace the packaged filter; Levoit recommends 6–8 months depending on use.Core 300-P-RF
Winix 5500-2Permanent pre-filterClean about every 14 days; this part is not included as a replacement in Filter H.Keep / clean

Winix 5500-2True HEPA filterDo not wash; replace with the Filter H set at about 12 months.

These intervals are manufacturer guidance, not a promise that every home will reach the same service life. Smoke load, operating time, and room conditions can shorten the interval.

A four-step ordering check

  1. 1
    Confirm the exact model.

Keep every number, dash, and suffix from the label.

  2. 2
Name the layer that needs service.

Permanent pre-filter, washable carbon, and non-washable HEPA are different roles.

  3. 3
    Match the official filter key.

Use the manufacturer part name or SKU, not a retailer’s generic compatibility phrase.

  4. 4
    Check what the package contains.

A set may replace multiple layers while leaving a permanent pre-filter in the purifier.

What this guide deliberately does not answer

  • No recommendation for Levoit Pet Allergy, Smoke Remover, or Toxin Absorber variants.
  • No conversion from Coway AP-1512HH role names to an inferred SKU.
  • No generic “fits Core 300” or “fits Winix 5500” claim without the exact supported suffix.

Those boundaries make the guide smaller, but they keep it useful without forcing a buyer toward an unverified part.
